Pedal Room Just Got Even More Useful

Image

We’re big fans of Pedal Room here at Team Lope Tyre Clubbe. it’s got the bike gallery component of Velospace without the snark such a large site has attracted. But they added something new that makes it more than just a gallery site: a secret field in your bike page that allows you to enter the serial number and only have access to it when you, ad the owner of the account, log in. This replicates some of the functionality of other sites we like, but I love that it’s integrated into the same place as your pretty-shiny-bikey galleries. I’ve started implementing it, my own self…

I Fought the Law and the MASH Won

Image

This morning the local PD was out in force, presumably trying to meet quota, and was ticketing drivers in several locations that need it done (drivers scooting along the crown of the road on Shoreline, threatening to crush cyclists in their haste; drivers blowing crosswalks and stop signs at a few locations in MV) but downtown, one cop, on stop sign/crosswalk duty, not only MISSED a car not yielding to my right of way (I have a controlled left turn and all other stops at this compound intersection have stop signs) but then, at the next enforcement location, I rolled up to the stop, coffee/bagel in one hand, and did a trackstand at the stop sign. He pointed at me, but I noted that while it was not the ‘foot down’ rule in our antiquated Vehicle Code language, it was a stop, and I demonstrated by repeating it, for longer duration. One handed. Which, for me, is harder than it is for some, out of inexperience with such maneuvers. So, a nod and off he went to the next guy.

For once, logic prevailed!

Put My Brake Cable Where? I Hardly Know You

Image

I like interesting build mods as much as the next guy (who happens to engineer them high as a kite and therefore both awesomely and with dread) but running the brake cable through the stem bolt (not aesthetically pleasing, but we’ve all thought about it) and down to a drum brake? Hm.

WrongPista

This is too much. At least he admits it was a fake-up, though apparently deluded enough to think it’s a selling point.

Found on Velospace…

Machete Fenders

Image

Seems almost wrong to post this on one of our few sunny days in between storms, but Superb just got in some heavy-duty sweet-as Machete aluminum fenders. These look pretty great. My plastic vender has an adjustable angle with a loose bolt, so I leave with it sprung, and arrive with it shearing my rear tyre off. HA.

Stopping the Crabon

Image

I was reading a thing about the ‘M40′ carbon tubular rim Thor Hushovd’s team is using (it’s deep, but rider than some, which helps on cobbles) and came across a photo that answered my duh-obvious question about carbon rims: how you create a braking surface without destroying the carbon. The answer appears to be an applied finish. That is all. Nothing earth-shattering here, I just wondered if the carbon was bonded to a titanium or other lightweight metal perimeter rim… apparently not. I’m no spring chicken, but I weigh approximately 33 of them, so carbon rims will never be for me…

That Gravity Bike Once Again

Image

I sort of can’t get enough of it. Again, this is the real one, not the cargo concept they worked on afterwards…

Team Lope Bike Grrl: Ally

Image

Ok, Ally here is definitely pushing into the erotica model territory: she’s cute, she’s got bounty, and she knows how to sit on a bike seat THAT WAY… but I worked hard to find a nice tame image to share. I like the bike too, for some reason. You may not have noticed it’s existence…

Triple Rush

Image

I’ve had this on my calendar forever, and it’s only a few weeks away: a documentary on bike messengers. Sure, I want to see bikes and bikery, but also, I’ve always been fascinated by the messenger thing. From everyone I’ve talked to that WAS one, past-tense, it was brutal effort, hectic, not well compensated, and hard to get through without meth. It’ll be interesting to see hoe the case studies work out…
