Crook Type 3: Self-Moving Vehicle

Image

Crook is, according to my sweet, sweet kanji, a ‘self-moving vehicle’…

…but not THIS kind. Ha. Thomas Motors.

Not as high on the list as lack of interest, but higher than lack of skill…

Last time I mentioned a few logistical details prevented YBD from working as a Z transportation vehicle: brakes, gearing and ride position (you know, little details)…

I’ve been hard at work solving the brake issue, with experiments in alternate brake levers and re-stringing the brakes 33 times.

I changed the gearing. Posts to follow on those efforts.

Today my handlebar alternate arrived. While by no means as FUN as sweet, sweet moustache bars, I think this will let me sit up and out of the way of Z’s seat. Experiment tonight forthcoming!

Look at that pic. wrongbike shown for scale.

Redfish Speedo Concept

Image

This, from Cyclomania currently on a road trip with his lady love, is a pretty trick concept. I, for one, enjoy the simplicity.

craig passero lotek edit

Image

there’s only one or two big baller moves in here, but the TECH in THIS edit is insane. he’s stringing 3- and 4-trick lines together in like zero space.

my favorites are the triple stepDown nose manual at 0:30 (brakeless, note), and the 3-stair gap barspin to bench to 360 noseBonk at 1:35. INSANE.

MASHSF "photo spot" sticker pack is genius

Image

at many amusement parks or tourist attractions, you may find (or have found in the past) a KODAK PICTURE SPOT — kodak put a bunch of these up years ago (like the 70s, i think) so amateur photogs could bring home winning shots of what they went to see. well, being the fucking marketing and design geniuses that they are, OG SF fixed crew MASHSF have come up with their own version — the MASHSF PHOTO SPOT STICKER. the idea is that if you’re on a ride and find a spot that you think other cyclists may want to take a picture at, you bomb it with one (or more) of these.

i’m CONSISTENTLY impressed with MASHSF’s ways and means, boy.

on my way from a work lunch thing today, i passed by perhaps the most beautiful bike i’ve seen outside the beloved team lope stable. perhaps even within the team lope stable.

it’s a coupled freeman transport, with coaster brake and raw metal finish. and it. is. incredible.

Image
in it’s full glory.

Image
nekkid bars and beautiful headbadge.

Image
fucking brazed-on downtube badge and meaty 32c tyre in cream.

closeup of the top tube coupler and the brooks saddle.

Image
coaster brake and gorgeous track dropouts.

i mean, i don’t often drool over strange bikes, even when their owners aren’t around, but this one deserves every drop i spill on it. just an amazing townie.

Coffee Carriage Cleverness

Image

So I spent literally YEARS developing a DIY coffee carriage system for the bike. I bought several weak products. I bought one GOOD product. I even have a workable system you’ve seen me post about.

But it occurred to me the other day: when it’s warm, i wear shorts, and my shorts have big cargo pockets. It’s an efficiency thing: i often stuff crap in there at the grocery stoe or on walks with Wee Z or what have you, I often have one or more bikery tools in there… anyway, I suddenly became aware of a barely-thought-about habit I had formed:

I carry my coffee tumbler in a side pocket when I have both the tumbler and the pocket.

Kind of funny.
Anyway.

Moving on…
